Intel 1U Passive/2U+ Active Combo Heat sink with Fan for Quad-Core Xeon Processors up to 2.0GHz socket LGA771.This CPU Heat sink solution is capable of being used in both a 1-U server with ducted air, as well as a 2-U (or desktops) without ducted air.
When used as a 1-U Thermal solution the onboard fan is removed to make this heat sink a passive cooler. But while being used as a 1-U passive heat sink it is important that the server have ducted air to ensure proper heat dispersion.
When used as a 2-U, or standard desktop style, the fan is left on the unit and ducted air is not required because the onboard fan is capable of dispersing the heat.
This Heat sink/Fan solution features the new 4-pin fan power connector that provides better speed control, and a higher efficiency fan motor. This effectively provides better cooling, quieter operation, and better energy savings than a standard 3-pin fan would.
