Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS)

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) 2002/95/EC was adopted in February 2003 by the European Union. The RoHS directive took effect on July 1, 2006, but is not a law; it is simply a directive. This directive restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment.

RoHS is often referred to as the "lead-free" directive, but it restricts the use of the following 6 substances:

  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Cadmium
  • Chromium VI (Also known as hexavalent chromium or Cr6+) 5. Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
  • Polybrominated biphenyls
  • Poly brominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)

Cables4computer is committed to conducting business in a manner that respects, preserves, and improves the environment. In this regard, we are committed to complying with the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directives.

We have plans and processes in place to comply with the RoHS directive by July 1, 2006. RoHS substances will be eliminated or reduced to levels below legal limits for all our products sold in the EU, except where we must take an exemption as allowed by the EU RoHS directive.

We have outlined the following initiatives to achieve our goal:

  • Take necessary measures to substantially decrease the use of parts which do not meet RoHS directive, except for critical components provided by customers/suppliers beyond our control.
  • Utilize substitute components which meet the RoHS directive, whenever possible.
  • Assist our customers in their transition to RoHS compliant products

Despite our best efforts, there could still be a small percent of our products that will not be RoHS compliant after the July 1, 2006 deadline because of the unavailability of compliant raw materials and hardware. Customer service can suggest alternative products for you that should meet your needs.

Please do contact us in case of any queries regarding the compliance of our products with the RoHS Directive.
